Hi Terra,
Glad to hear he's staying! I hope it's for good.  
As far as the tail feathers go, just towel him if you need to. Take the worst one first. You don't have to pull them out all at once if you don't want.  They won't bleed unless they are new feathers growing in. It might be easier if you have someone hold him and with one hand kinda grab him around his rump and yank quickly. It should pop right out. He will probably squawk a bit. In 6 weeks he should have nice new tail feathers.

Okay, I did it! I ended up grabbing a couple extra feathers, but hey what can ya do LOL I grabbed the ones that were messed up and got a tiny one that wasnt every now and then, i did them 2 at a time  undecided   he squeeked every now and then, but hes fine lol
10 feathers, damaged, 8 opps didnt mean to pull that one featehers and one long feather i pulled but shouldnt have...   I took him in the shower with me and he took a bath and hes been preening himself and shaking his dust and little feather stuff all over! Glad i dont have a cup of anything im drinking it would be all over in it  YULCK!
