dehydrated veggies
Mar 19th, 2006, 5:49pm

I went to the health food store today and about had a cow when they wanted to charge 8.99 a lb. for dehydrated veggies. I can dehydrate in my oven. I took bags of frozen mixed veggies and put them on parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Set the oven to 225 and let them dry. They have been in there since lunch today and are looknig pretty good. I'm going to mix them in with my seed, grain mix. I went to the health food store and got all kinds of great things to put in my mix. Quite a bit I took from Bonnie's seed mix and then some I added what they had. I don't have any pluckers right now so I added winter wheat and my veggie mix has corn in it. I put hulled millet, Pumpkin seed, oat groats, rye berries, red lentils, oatmeal, buck wheat, flax seed and a few other things I can't remember. i haven't added the veggies yet, but put some in with my not wanting to wean babies and they are all on the floor of the cage chowing down. I plan to slice some celery to deyhdrate too, but haven't done it yet. I would have used fresh veggies to dehydrate, but I am way to lazy to dice all those veggies that will shrivel into nothing. I also plan to add some sunflower and safflower seed.

Hey!  Great minds think alike!
I just dehydrated some blue berries, strawberries, kiwi and banana, last night.
I have a dehydrator and I love it!  It is impossible to find any dehydrated fruit without the sulfer added to it, so I just do my own.
I make my own "beak appetite" like mix and just add my own dehydrated veggies and fruits to the mix.
The fids love it!

If you store them in the fridge they last indefinately.  On the counter, they should keep for a few months.

I have a dumb question....    How long do they stay in the over for when dehydrating that way?

You can tell when they are dry by looking at them or touching them. They will be crisp with no moisture.
